  14. We the fiscally irresponsible have had our .9 flyers for a while now.  
  15. Flyer owners have posted that they'd like to see this bug fixed, that 
  16. feature added.  Thierry (your last name escapes me as I compose this.  My 
  17. apologies... ) has suggested in a different thread that we must give 
  18. NewTek until Flyer V4 before we can discuss the desirable features and 
  19. capabilities of the flyer.  I think otherwise.  Here goes, in no 
  20. particular order...

  24. 1.  "Optimization" of the placement of clips on the two flyer drives.  
  25. When you're done cutting, a press of the button will copy clips between 
  26. the A and B drives so that the video will play back without having to 
  27. record scratch segments for the A/B effects.

  29. 2.  Playback of only a selected part of a program.  Imagine telling a 
  30. client "No, you'll have to sit through the whole thing again to see the 
  31. changed part in context."

  33. 3.  Being able to "build" audio tracks, "cutting in" sound effects to 
  34. match the picture.
  35.  
  36. 4.  Electronic "grease-pencil" marks.  I'd like to be able to somehow 
  37. "mark" the frame of a clip where the gun begins to fire, scrub and mark 
  38. the audio clip of a pistol firing, and then have the two "grease-pencil" 
  39. marks line up. (Syncing and cutting pistol shots is easy, but the idea of 
  40. tagging a specific frame of action or sound is important to sound editing.)

  42. 5.  Audio "scrubbing."  I have an AD-516 and although it has allowed me 
  43. to build some impressive tracks for video, it was a lot harder to get 
  44. specific effects cut in in sync with it.  I can sync effects faster and 
  45. more accurately by scrubbing videotape and zeroing the counters 
  46. (electronic "grease-pencil") at the point where the audio and video match.
  47.  
  48. 6.  Music Video edit mode.  The flaw with the storyboard interface is it 
  49. doesn't allow holes in the uncompleted program.  When cutting some 
  50. programs, I'll lay in the audio first and then insert the video where 
  51. appropriate.  I'll also cut so that action, not cuts, fall on the musical 
  52. beats.  Any dope can cut on the beat.  Imagine a shot of a man suddenly 
  53. extending his arm and pointing.  The action is very snappy, and you want 
  54. to see the entire action plus about a half second before and after the 
  55. action -- AND the finger pointing has to occur on a SPECIFIC beat of the 
  56. music, two-thirds of the way through the song.  With videotape, I could 
  57. have that shot laid in and waiting for me to insert the shots around it.  
  58. With the Storyboard interface, there needs to be a way to "anchor" 
  59. certain shots to program time or to audio tracks.

  64. will help make the flyer an outstanding tool.
